Purple Chinese Hat Plant
(Karomia tettensis, formerly Holmskioldia tettensis)
a striking, warm-climate tropical shrub celebrated for its unique, two-toned blooms that resemble miniature parasols or traditional hats.
The most prominent feature is the flaring, paper-like, mauve-pink calyx (the saucer or hat). Emerging from its center is a tubular, deep violet-blue corolla (the flower petal).
The colorful pinkish-mauve "hats" persist on the branches for many weeks, extending the plant's decorative appeal.
It typically grows as a multi-stemmed, upright, or vase-shaped evergreen shrub reaching 5 - 8 feet tall. The high-nectar blooms are highly attractive to butterflies, bees, and nectar-eating birds
